OUR STORY

Adelaide Atletico VSC was founded in November 2020 with a clear purpose: to create opportunities through football for everyone. The idea of forming a club initially emerged from a suggestion within the existing South Australian cerebral palsy football group and their coach, former A-League and professional footballer Marcos Flores. Alongside the players within the program and a small group of community football figures, this early stage brought together a shared desire to increase the availability and visibility of disability football in South Australia.

Early development began through informal, independent training sessions and kick-abouts at a park in Adelaide’s north-east in late 2020, where players, families, and supporters came together around a simple idea — to create a space where football could be played without barriers or restriction.

From this foundation, and on November 2nd 2020, Adelaide Atletico FC was officially established.

From its earliest days, the vision was simple: football without limits, for anyone who wants to play.

Operating initially as Adelaide Atletico FC, the club grew rapidly across Adelaide’s north-east, with teams forming in Athelstone, Newton, Paradise, and surrounding areas. Built on strong community foundations, Atletico FC developed into a diverse football environment spanning junior, recreational, and amateur football, underpinned by inclusion, participation, and accessibility for all.

As the club expanded organically, so too did its ambition, with increasing participation across multiple age groups, genders, and ability levels. What began as a small inclusion-focused initiative in November 2020 quickly evolved into a broad football community representing players from all walks of life, fielding recreational junior teams, two amateur men’s teams, and a flagship inclusion program by the start of the 2021 season. By 2022, the club’s mission, unique identity, and organic growth saw the addition of female-specific football through an inaugural community women’s squad.

From the outset, this growth was guided by a clear set of principles that continue to define the club today — the 6 Pillars of Adelaide Atletico VSC: Affordability, Inclusivity, Fairness, Respect, Community, and the Embracement of Technology.

OUR PILLARS

AFFORDABILITY

AFFORDABILITY

AFFORDABILITY

Our mission at Adelaide Atletico VSC is to enable every child to play soccer, regardless of their financial circumstances. Affordability is about levelling the playing field, ensuring financial limitations are never a barrier to participation. We are committed to working in unique and innovative ways to support this, including pioneering in-house uniform production to help reduce costs while maintaining quality and identity. This approach ensures more children have the opportunity to learn the game, be part of a team, and enjoy football with a smile.

INCLUSIVITY

AFFORDABILITY

AFFORDABILITY

Adelaide Atletico VSC is committed to maintaining inclusivity at the heart of everything we do. Built on the foundation of our passionate Cerebral Palsy squad in 2020, inclusivity now extends across 500+ players and 40+ teams, with opportunities in SAASL All-Abilities, recreational, and competitive (elite) football for all genders, ages, and identities. Our wide landscape provides players of all abilities with meaningful pathways to train, compete, and belong within our club. We believe football is strongest when it is truly accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability.

RESPECT

AFFORDABILITY

FAIRNESS

Central to our beliefs at Adelaide Atletico VSC is the value of respect. We believe, and will teach, that all children must respect their opponents, officials, coaches, spectators, and most importantly, each other as players and individuals. We respect that every player deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential in their own pathway, and that teammates should support one another and celebrate each other’s successes.  Results do not always define success. We aim to build strong networks that mentor players to not only develop as footballers, but also as young men and women as they navigate their own pathways in life.

FAIRNESS

TECHNOLOGY

FAIRNESS

Not only is our club inclusive, but it is also fair. We are fully transparent and honest in discussing each player’s performance and ability, with a clear focus on development and evolution. We lead with humanity and connection, recognising that making mistakes is an essential part of growth and the journey for every player to reach their individual best, regardless of starting point. We aim to learn and grow together.

COMMUNITY

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY

We are a community-focused club. Adelaide Atletico VSC has been formed on the true principles of community, and we aim to be a genuine reflection of the local area we represent. We want our club to represent not only our players, but the wider community as well. That is why we are committed to supporting the community in any way possible, whether through the use of our facilities for events, local sponsorships and/or by actively contributing to community initiatives and fundraisers.

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY

As part of our coaching approach at Adelaide Atletico VSC, we use technology to support player development and growth. This includes VEO matchday and training recordings, along with in-depth analysis from qualified, experienced, and passionate coaches. These tools help players and parents understand performance, track progress, and identify areas for improvement. This reflects our Atletico DNA, promoting honest reflection, continuous development, and meaningful growth as both; player and person.

OUR MERGER: FROM FC TO VSC

As Adelaide Atletico FC continued to grow, so too did the ambition to provide players with a complete football pathway that could bridge community, development, and elite competition. While the club had built a strong foundation across inclusion, junior, and amateur football, it became increasingly clear that a broader structure was needed to support long-term competitive progression within South Australian football.

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Adelaide Atletico FC entered into a genuine merger with Adelaide Victory FC (formerly Western Toros), established in 2015, a club with an established experience in State League football and structured competitive development pathways. At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Adelaide Victory were relegated from FSA State League 1 to FSA State League 2.

This was not a takeover, but a unification of two clubs with complementary strengths and shared values.

Adelaide Atletico FC brought with it strong community identity, rapid grassroots growth, and a deeply embedded inclusion and participation culture. Adelaide Victory FC brought established State League experience, competitive football structure, and an existing elite pathway framework. Together, the merger created a complete football system spanning all levels of the game — from all-abilities and grassroots participation, to adult recreational, and now the addition of competitive (elite) junior and senior State League football pathways.

From the start of the 2025 season, the unified club became Adelaide Atletico VSC, representing the next stage in its evolution.

Through this merger, Rushworth Reserve in Blair Athol became the first established home for the Adelaide Atletico VSC. Primarily used via the club’s elite and inclusion/all-abilities pathways, while Atletico’s broader network of community venues across Adelaide’s north and north-east continued to support junior, recreational pathways.

In its first season as a merged entity in 2025, Adelaide Atletico VSC achieved immediate competitive success, earning promotion from State League 2 to State League 1 via victory in the play-off final. This milestone reinforced the strength of the combined structure and validated the club’s integrated pathway model and we paired with competition Under 18s efforts and a SL2 Reserve league title.

Beyond senior success in a newly established "elite" pathway, the wider club continued to grow, with strong junior development programs, sustained all-abilities participation, and ongoing involvement across men’s, women’s, and recreational competitions — reflecting balance across both grassroots and elite football.

In 2026, Adelaide Atletico VSC is proud to provide footballing opportunities for 500+ registered players, across 40+ teams within recreational and elite pathways!

OUR MISSION

OUR PHILOSOPHY

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Adelaide Atletico VSC, our mission is to create a football environment that develops people as much as players. We are committed to building a strong, inclusive community where football is used as a platform for growth, connection, and opportunity.

Guided by the vision and influence of our founding leadership, including former professional footballer Marcos Flores, the club focuses on continual improvement — not through comparison with others, but through developing better players, better teammates, and better people.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

OUR PHILOSOPHY

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Adelaide Atletico VSC provides structured football environments across all levels of the game, supported by clear seasonal planning, including preseason preparation and ongoing development throughout the year.

Where appropriate, additional development opportunities may be offered during off-season periods for players who wish to continue progressing in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Our coaching environment brings together a wide range of football experience, supporting players through skill development, game understanding, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game.

OUR CULTURE

OUR PHILOSOPHY

OUR CULTURE

We believe football is one of the most powerful environments for personal growth.

Across all programs at Adelaide Atletico VSC, training is designed to develop more than technical ability. Players are encouraged to build communication, discipline, focus, resilience, and confidence through their engagement in football.

Our aim is to create environments where players can grow both as footballers and as people, supported by coaches who value development, enjoyment, and long-term progression in the game.
